The Ordinary Colours – Serum Foundation

Hi Babes!

I was originally planning on doing a video today, but with a 3 year old loudly telling himself stories and reading books out loud in his room and an almost 6 month old clamoring for my attention, I decided against that. I used my spending money for the month on a haul of new products from Ulta yesterday so I am going to briefly talk about those as well as a new favorite foundation.

I heard about Deciem The Abnormal Beauty Company a few months ago. It was in reference to their new line of foundations coming out. I checked out the website and was so excited to see that the foundation was only $6.70!! A (anticipated) high end foundation for dollar store prices?? And with so many unique shades available? I ordered what I felt like would be my shade and then eagerly awaited the arrival of my Serum Foundation.

Due to the huge demand for their product, Deceim took a month before getting the serum foundation to me. I honestly didn’t mind the wait. If this foundation was going to be as good as the claims said it was, I was willing to wait! I finally got my 1.1P Fair with Pink Undertones foundation in the mail and carefully inspected the bottle and read the “directions.” I noticed the foundation seemed separated, but I also saw it was highly recommended to shake well before use. I’ve tried the foundation several times in the past two months, but haven’t tried it with primer on first. Today is the first time I’ve done my makeup full face in months. I am so impressed with this foundation! It is very liquid-y and that was concerning to me at first, but it goes on almost velvety and dries matte and almost like a powder. Even though the foundation is very fluid, it has a very good medium coverage and since I don’t need much, I see this one little bottle lasting me for a long time! I have seen reports of the foundation oxidizing, but I think that was in reference to the Coverage Foundation. I haven’t noticed oxidizing in my Serum Foundation though!

Alright, so do I recommend this foundation? Uhm yes, this stuff is amazing, and for that price? Go for it!

Moving on to my Ulta haul!

I have been eyeing Makeup Revolutions Luxury Baking Powder in Banana for a long time. I finally decided to get it tomorrow. I’ll have to say I’m pleased with how it feels. It’s a nice finish instead of using finishing powder to complete a look. I also picked up a new eyeshadow palette. This one is called Unicorns Are Real and as I don’t have any palettes with those colors, I figured why not? So far, I really like the shades! Especially the purples and reddish pink. I’m looking forward to playing with this palette.

The last product I got was a Bright Lights Illumination Blush Stick from NYX. My current blushes are getting old and I need to throw them out so this is a perfect alternative to having a blush palette! I don’t like having a lot of different options for blushes, so having one product to quickly swipe on and go is my preference.

I’m hoping to get a project done in the next few months that will help with getting my YouTube channel up and running again. In the meantime, let me know if you try The Ordinary Serum or Coverage foundations? I’d love to hear what you think!

Curls Spectacular! – Part 1, Traditional Curling Iron

Hi Babes!

So I decided to post two days in a row. I’m always looking for ways to help prolong my hair between washing it (it helps preserve my curls) and since I liked my hair enough today, I decided to curl it with a curling iron. It is always a good idea to protect your hair, whether you have naturally curly, wavy, or straight hair. So I suggest using some sort of heat protector spray and allowing that to dry before starting to curl your hair.

The products I used:

1″ Conair Curling Iron

Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil

Tresseme Hair Spray

Step 1: Make sure your hair is free of tangles. If you have a lot of tangles, be very gentle with untangling your hair. Once your hair is untangled, separate a bottom layer and clip the rest of your hair up and out of the way. The bottom layer should only be the hair from the middle of your ears and down.

Step 2: Start curling. I find it’s easiest to work from the back to the front. And I will start with my curling iron upside down and twist UP towards my head instead of under. Take hair spray and spray the curls as you’re done curling that layer. (*repeat the same for every layer)

Step 3: Make sure to confine the part of your hair that’s already been curled before letting down another layer. I will then take the middle layer which will start right at my temple and down. Again, I’ll curl from the back to the front and gently comb out the hair if it’s still tangled. *

Step 4: this is the top layer and I do this layer a little differently. Instead of curling UP towards my head and I will put the curling iron on my hair right side up and curl UNDER towards my head. This helps create a smoother finish of the curls on the top layer while the bottom two layers provide more volume. *

Step 5: Once all of your hair is curled, spray your whole head with hair spray. Then gently flip your head over and carefully pull some of the curls apart. Don’t be rough with this part otherwise you will loose the shape of your curls.

then voila! You’re done!

Product Review – Stila Perfect & Correct Foundation

Happy Monday!

How’s your week going so far? Mine’s a little wonky since my car is in the shop but I don’t mind being stuck at home since the weather is finally so beautiful outside!

I recently snatched Stila’s foundation during a recent Hautelook deal (seriously, keep an eye out at Hautelook, they have a lot of amazing deals!) and I couldn’t wait to try it. I consistently go back to my favorite e.l.f foundation but am becoming more willing to try different foundations. Especially since using a primer helps protect my skin and helps new products go on much more smoothly. I was also quite intrigued by the look of this foundation. I’ve never used a product that is swirled together like this foundation, but like I said, I was eager to try it. And guess what! It didn’t disappoint. I love how light it feels on my skin and it actually is a good shade for me. I got the lightest shade Stila offers which is Light or Fair. This foundation is also currently available at Stila for $15 instead of $44 so I’d highly recommend grabbing some!! It is definitely easily buildable but one coat provides a decent amount of coverage for me.

Okay, so here’s the video and I’ll be back later this week with more reviews and some hairstyles I’ve been experimenting with!

DIY Curl Reviving Spray

It’s almost Friday!!

One of the banes of my existence is my curly hair. I adore my curls, but really only on the days they turn out right! But, the one thing I have always struggled with for as long as I can remember is second day curls. So, upon doing some research last night, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I have long eyed Bumble and Bumble Curl Reactivating Mist but as it is expensive, I never got it. And it now appears Bumble and Bumble no longer carries it. Oh well! However, the idea of a curl reactivating spray of some sort has continued to intrigue me. So I decided to make my own.

The ingredients for a curl reviving spray are simple; you need a product that will moisturize/hydrate your curls, and something to smooth them. I used a conditioner (Hair Food Kiwi Conditioner) an argan oil (Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil), and a curl reviving gel (Curls Lavish Curls Moisturizer) I already had. I wasn’t sure what to expect with this DIY spray, but the results were amazing! Here’s the rough amounts of everything I put into the spray

  • 4-5 pumps of conditioner
  • 4 sprays of argan oil
  • 15 sprays of curl reviving gel
  • enough water to fill up the spray bottle

I put this all in the spray bottle and made sure to shake it all up so it was all mixed together. A good tip about the tip of spray bottle you need is to make sure it sprays a mist not just a stream of water. *see what I’m talking about in the video.

Projects I’m Working On – call for guest posts!

Hi Babes!

How’s your Monday going so far? Ender and I had a play-date this morning with a few other moms and he thoroughly enjoyed playing with his buddies. And I always think of Minions when I use that term. Anyway, here’s a video detailing some of the things I’ve been working on and the things that I will have coming to the blog in the coming weeks and month. April has kind of gotten away from me, but even while I haven’t had time to post, I have been doing a lot of research. Like I’ve said before, my Pinterest boards are overflowing with charts, how-tos, and lists of things that I am planning on implementing on this blog.

One of the things I would love to do with this blog is start featuring guest posts! Email me with post ideas at lashes.rouge at

Little Updates

This past week has been crazy for me. I had my company’s big conference last weekend, and all of last week was catching up on life and spending time with my little guy who really missed me last week. During this past week, I spent awhile planning my future goals and figuring out what I want to do with my life. So, one of the big things I’ll be working towards for the rest of the year is figuring out how to become a Makeup Artist. I’ll be looking up information about classes and doing lots of research. This blog will be my testing ground and anyone who has any suggestions, please contact me! This is going to be my learning year for sure.

Some of the things I’ll be posting about in the coming weeks include applying foundation correctly (I’m going to be testing a new e.l.f. foundation!), hot curler tips (hot curlers versus curling iron), and my pinterest boards are overflowing with ideas!

So hang in there, I’m trying to get my crazy wild life back in order! I’ll be posting regularly again shortly. My plan is to do some playing around with hair styles for my sister in law’s wedding next month as well as makeup. Thanks for following and keeping up with my sporadic posting!

Giveaway winner announced and new product announcement!

Hi all,

It was a crazy crazy week for me last week! Thank you for all who entered in the giveaway. Would Shannon please message me? I will send out your package out tomorrow!

Okay, so I spent all weekend in St. Louis freezing my butt of between the hotel and the conference center. You all in St. Louis, is your weather always that bone chilling cold in April?? Anyway, I am so very excited about the conference I attended, the new product that was announced, and the new absolutely incredible deals that were given to us in Nerium and to those who purchase Nerium as a customer. I was blown away at how much our CEO and all of those at the top of the company care about every person in Nerium. I don’t know of any other company who does that. I am so lucky to be a part of such an awesome company.

Now, want to know what the new product is???  It’s an incredible eye serum. This is the first product that provides instant results as well as long term. Half of its ingredients provide those instant results people look for, and the other half are focused on restoring skin and repairing for long term results.

This WILL sell out very quickly, so anyone interested message me over at the contact page!!! Nerium has been known to sell out very fast any time a new product as been released.

Happy Monday to everyone and keep your eyes out for another tutorial post this coming week! I just got a hot roller set for my birthday and I’m so excited to give tips and tricks for that!

Giveaway – Homemade Eye Makeup Remover Pads

Hi Babes!

It is snowing once again here in Colorado, just lightly, but still, it’s April 1st tomorrow!!

I’m sure everyone has had issues in the past, or presently does, with removing eye makeup. One of my favorite and most reliable natural way of removing eye makeup is rubbing coconut oil on my eyes and it removes my eye makeup. But the downside to using coconut oil is that it is some times (pretty much every time) difficult to get the oil off my skin and off my lashes. Sooo, I found a recipe on Pinterest and decided to make my own! These include water, baby soap (tearless baby wash), and coconut oil. I made up three different containers and decided to give away two of them! So for two lucky people, you will be getting your very own container of eye makeup remover pads! The giveaway starts today and will go until the 6th! I will be out of town the 7th through the 10th, so I will send out the prize by the 12th!

Cool or Warm? Check out Sephora’s app for lip colors!

Happy Friday! It feels good to be at the end of a busy week and looking forward to a relaxing weekend. Anyone have any big plans for the weekend?

Sephora sent out an email this past week which included a link to the virtual artist section of their smartphone app. This app allows you to take a picture and then “try” on various shades of lipstick and lip gloss to see what looks best with your skin tone. I found this particularly intriguing especially since it took me a long time to figure out what the best shades for my skin tone were. Now, Riley’s done a post about undertones before and we’ve talked about it in one of our videos. One of the things that I personally have learned about undertones is that there can be extremely subtle differences between a cool and warm color and sometimes you won’t be able to tell until that lipstick or eye shadow color is on your skin.

Okay so, the very cool thing about the Sephora app (which is free btw) is that you can tell almost right away if a color is too cool or too warm for your skin tone. Really quickly, before I say anything, here’s a brief overview of what I mean by undertone.

And now, here are some examples of the differences between cool and warm lipstick colors.

Okay, take a good look at both of those sets of pictures. For the cool undertones you can see the lipstick colors seem to blend quite well with my skin. In the warm undertones, those four lipsticks look like they’re sitting on top of my skin. There isn’t any harmony with the colors of the lipstick and the color of my skin. Can you see that? Yes the orange lipstick is a little drastic, but that’s just to show a stark difference.

Anyway, I highly recommend downloading the Sephora app and trying it for yourself! Of course, going into a store and checking lipstick colors directly on your skin is the best way. But, this app can help give you an idea. Do you know if you have cool or warm undertones? Share your favorite lipstick colors!

Have an awesome weekend!!
