How to Find Your Undertone and Pair it with the Right Red Lip

Hi babes! Happy Coffee Day! If you didn’t know, you can get a free coffee at Dunkin Donuts and at Krispy Kreme. So as you can imagine I have had a LOT of coffee today. But anyway, I’m going to tell you all about skin undertones.

The best way to find out what your undertone is is under natural light. Just look at the veins on your wrist and if they are blue or purple you have cool undertones (like me!), if they are a blue-green then your undertone is neutral (lucky you), or if they are green or olive then you have warm undertones.

With cool undertones come red/rosy cheeks. Since I have cool undertones, I’m mainly going to be focusing on what to do if you have cool undertones. If you have neutral or warm undertones then you can either use these tips or do the opposite.

When it comes to pairing a red lipstick with your undertone you want to make sure that it wont clash with your skin. So for cool undertones you want to make sure the red lipstick has blue undertones to it. That means more of a purple red instead of an orange red. In my opinion, red lipstick that has orange undertones tend to clash with my skin and wash me out. Here is a picture of a side by side of a lipstick with orange undertones and one with blue undertones.

It may not like it’s a huge difference, but trust me, it is a BIG difference! However, if you have neutral undertones, both will work for you. If you have warm undertones you can still do both but the one with orange undertones will work better for you.

Another tip, for cool undertones you want to stay away from foundation that has a yellow tint to it. Go for something like this instead if you are fair like me. If you aren’t sure which foundation works best for your skin tone and undertone ask a beauty professional at any beauty store like Ulta or Sephora and they will help you. In fact, at Sephora they have something called the Color IQ that scans your skin and gets you the perfect shade for you and it’s totally free.

That’s it for now lovelies! I hope you all have a great rest of your day! Please check out our Pick the Topics page since we just recently updated it. Bye x x
